There are some moments in teaching that remind you exactly why you love what you do.
Our school’s Back to School Bash was one of those moments for me.
As I walked around and saw families arriving, children laughing, and the excitement building for a brand-new school year, I couldn’t help but feel an incredible sense of optimism, gratitude, and excitement for what is ahead.
One of the most special parts of the evening was seeing so many familiar faces. I had the privilege of teaching many of these children when they were in kindergarten, and seeing them now—bigger, more confident, and ready to take on another year of learning—was truly heartwarming.
There is something so special about watching children grow.
I remember those kindergarten days: the little voices, the curious questions, the big emotions, the first steps toward becoming readers and writers, and all of the small victories that made each day meaningful. Seeing those same children now, several years later, was a wonderful reminder that teachers may have students for only one year, but the relationships and memories can last so much longer.
And then there were the new faces.
Meeting new students and families brought an entirely different kind of excitement. Each new face represents a new story, new possibilities, new relationships, and new opportunities to learn together.
I absolutely love the beginning of a school year for that reason.
There is a sense that anything is possible.
We haven't made mistakes yet. We haven't had challenging days yet. We haven't discovered all of the things our students will teach us yet. We are standing at the very beginning of a new journey, with an entire year of possibilities ahead.
As I prepare to welcome my second graders, I am especially excited about this new chapter. I know there will be moments of growth, moments of laughter, moments that challenge us, and moments that remind us just how incredible children are.
And after seeing everyone at the Back to School Bash, I am walking into this school year with an even fuller heart.
I am excited to reconnect with the students I already know.
I am excited to get to know the students who are new to me.
I am excited to meet and partner with their families.
And most of all, I am excited about who these children will become over the next year.
A new school year is more than new supplies, new backpacks, new classrooms, and fresh bulletin boards.
It is a fresh beginning.
It is an opportunity to create a classroom community where children feel safe, valued, encouraged, and capable.
It is a chance to celebrate progress rather than perfection, nurture curiosity, encourage kindness, and remind every child that they have something important to contribute.
The Back to School Bash left me feeling incredibly hopeful about the year ahead.
So here's to familiar faces, new faces, returning friendships, new beginnings, and all of the possibilities waiting for us in the year ahead.
I am ready. My heart is full. And I cannot wait to see what this school year brings. ❤️📚✨
Here’s to a wonderful 2026–2027 school year!
With gratitude,
Jennifer
